Waikato Museum, located in Hamilton New Zealand has an important new team leader role to fill.
As we strive to become the best regional museum in New Zealand, we’re looking for an experienced and proven museum industry professional to join us as the Senior Registrar.
This position is responsible for overseeing our collection care, and managing the work of staff who have direct roles in the care of our taonga.
You’ll be a stickler for detail and have a grasp of the importance of process and cataloguing when it comes to the treasures we care for on behalf of the community. Document management experience and expertise are absolutely vital and ideally you will familiar with the Vernon museum item management system. You will also have a deep understanding of how to manage and conserve collections of important artwork and artefacts.
You’ll be a robust and assertive people leader who is able to get the best from their team, and can set and meet clear expectations. We need someone who can grasp opportunities when they emerge, and has excellent-relationship management skills. Experience dealing with donors, lenders and iwi stakeholders will be a significant advantage, particularly given the importance of Maaori and partnerships at our museum.
The successful candidate will join a team of committed, talented and experienced museum managers and will be keen to embrace our vision and our strategic plan to develop our facility.

Salary will be from $65,000 per annum (NZD) and we are open to negotiate. This is a 40 hour working week with the opportunity to participate in additional leave entitlements, 3 per cent employer kiwi saver contribution, training and development opportunities and much more.
