Qualified Gardener - City Parks

Hamilton City Council’s City Parks team is looking for a vibrant experienced and qualified Gardener who’s not afraid to muck in and get their hands dirty while adding to the beauty of our growing city.

You’ll be part of a wider team working to maintain and develop Hamilton’s parks, sports grounds, natural areas and road plantings to make our city beautiful. The key focus of this position includes maintaining the colourful annual and perennial plant displays in our CBD, our traffic islands, and our large roundabouts.

Our bedding displays gather media and public attention for their beauty and intricacy, and the team responsible for these areas takes great pride the work delivered. The team will often theme a bedding display according to the season or an upcoming event, so creativity is encouraged.

You may be called on to support other teams in our unit from time to time.

You’ll play a key role in the day-to-day maintenance of the Council’s parks and gardens, and ensure they comply with relevant standards and specific time frames. You will also assist with planting and other related tasks when required.

Our ideal candidate will have experience with annual bedding, park maintenance and the use of mechanical machinery. To be successful, you must have a current New Zealand Driver’s Licence and Growsafe certificate.

The recruiting rate for this role starts at $21.05 per hour, and depending on experience this could be negotiated for the right candidate.

Hamilton City Council is committed to being a high-performance organisation with people who think differently, act with integrity, make it happen and work together.

This is your chance to be part of an organisation that is committed to building a more vibrant, attractive and prosperous city.

If this role sounds like it’s for you, we would love to hear from you. Make it happen and apply online today!

All candidates will be notified of the outcome on their application via email. Short-listed candidates will be required to complete an interview process, reference checks, pre-employment medical and drug assessments, and Ministry of Justice or Police vetting check.
