Planning Guidance Unit Manager

One of the key planning roles for our city is now available and we are looking for someone special. This role is not about simply applying the regulations. It’s about working closely with our development community and public to find solutions, enable growth and deliver positive long-term outcomes for Hamilton. It’s also about thinking differently about how we do things.

You’ll lead a team of 21 professionals who are engaged, capable and want someone with energy, positivity and community focus.

At the Council, we’re driven to improve the wellbeing of Hamiltonians and to really turn the dial on this, we need people who are creative, innovative and prepared to try new things.

We think you’ll need the following skills, knowledge and experience:

•  extensive knowledge of the Resource Management Act

•  extensive knowledge of the development process from beginning to end

•  leadership ability – able to develop effective strategy, drive culture, build the teams’ capability and drive organisational performance

•  strong negotiation and issue resolution skills

•  open, transparent and collaborative style

•  and you’ll need to be confident and resilient.

This role sits within the City Growth team which is charged with maximising the opportunity that growth presents for Hamilton. It is fast paced, and you’ll have exposure to a broad range of projects and people to keep you interested and challenged.
