Display House Gardener


We are looking for an experienced gardener to manage the Victorian Garden Display Houses in accordance with the landscape design statement, as well as working with the wider Nursery team to meet our collective goals.

You’ll have an eye for creating colour and vibrancy in the display houses, as well as a passion for sharing your depth of knowledge with our visitors. We are looking for a skilled gardening professional to spearhead the maintenance and cultivation of these famous garden displays.

Reporting to the Nursery Manager, this role is also a key part of the wider Nursery operation – which grows natives and exotic plants for use in the city. The Municipal Nursery is critical to supporting Hamilton City Council’s goal of creating an attractive green city. 

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be experienced in coordination and arrangement of plants for public display
  • Have practical skills and knowledge in growing and caring for plant species in areas of tropical plants, cacti and succulents, potted flowering plants and general indoor varieties
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with frequent interruptions by visitors and staff
  • Be a team player who is keen to get stuck in to meet our collective team goals
  • Be able to work independently in the display houses 

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, with weekend work on a rostered basis. The remuneration rate will be negotiated for the right candidate.
