Community Advisor

Hamilton City Council’s Community and Social Development team aims to empower local communities to engage with the Council, help them to meet their goals and work together to address complex issues, resulting in improved quality of life, health and wellbeing.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced social and community development practitioner to join our team as a Community Advisor. This particular role has a focus on community safety and resilience.

You’ll be someone who has proven experience in community led approaches and preferably also have knowledge and skill in the area of Civil Defence.

You’ll have established networks in the Hamilton community, proven skills in activating and enabling organisations and communities, and be able to operate professionally and astutely in a political environment. 

In this role you will contribute to making Hamilton an attractive place to live where people feel safe and secure, our communities are prepared, and can look after one another and recover during times of emergency. Part of this role entails monitoring the Central City Safety Strategy, coordinating Central City Safety Strategy actions, working with concerned communities to address their issues as well as working with New Zealand Police to increase Neighbourhood Support and resilience networks. 

We are looking for someone with proven experience in project management experience, as well as highly-tuned communication and influencing skills. Your natural ability to work across organisations to achieve joint social wellbeing outcomes will be key to your success.  Ultimately it will be your passion for our community and your desire to build a better tomorrow that will make you stand out from the crowd.
